Document Summary
They study why the same person act differently in different situations. Attribution theory: theory that we attribute someone"s behaviour to either dispositional attribution (enduring traits), or situational attribution (situation)! Fundamental attribution error: we over estimate the in uence of personality (dispositional attribution) and underestimate the in uence of situations. Example: jack is outgoing and juliette is an introvert. But jack can be as quiet as juliette in class, and juliette can be talkative in a party (because of the situation)! Culture: western culture: dispositional= asians: situation. how we explain our own behaviour: we are sensitive to how behaviour change with the situation: we are also sensitive to the power of situation. Has real life effects: a person must decide a person"s intention by attribution! Political conservatives: blame on personal disposition: they get what they deserve! Political liberals: blame past and present situations: poor education, lack of opportunity, discrimination! Point to remember: our attribution (either disposition or situation) have real consequences!
