Humanistic therapy: emphasizes people"s inherent potential for self-fulfillment, assumptions, conscious > unconscious, present & future > past, problem is caused by the environment. Active listening: carl rogers, empathic listening where listener echoes, restates & clarifies. Behavioral therapy: learn adaptive & extinguish maladaptive behaviors, uses classical & operant conditioning. Operant conditioning: reinforce behavior thru reward: reinforcement: increases probability of repeating behavior, punishment: decreases probability of repeating behavior, avoidance: do behavior not in front of person delivering punishment, escape: move away from person delivering punishment. Counterconditioning: uses classical conditioning to evoke new responses to stimuli.
