Idea about what civilizations are, according to katzenstain. They are these primordial (basic, fundamental, existing since begin. Idea is that civilizations are not global conflict groups, so much as malleable cultural identities that orient the ideas and practices of states and people. It is not a condition, but a process created by human practices. They coexist w/ each other, w/in 1 civilization of modernity, or the (cid:3247)global world(cid:3248) Specific political units exist w/in civilizations too -- states, polities, empires -- Internal pluralism results from multiple traditions, vigorous debates and disagreements. For huntington, civilizations = coherent, consensual, invariant, and equipped w/ this state-like capacity to act! No they are rather, according to katzenstain,what i wrote above.
