To reduce the fever through medications may lengthen the time that one is sick. It can be our body"s attempt to fight off the disease: defect is a physiological manifestation that serves no purpose, ex) seizure, defense serves an initial purpose, ex) cough expel foreign material form the respiratory tract. One study revealed that decrease in common infectious diseases (such as measles, mumps, etc. ) resulted in increase in another set of disorders (such as sclerosis, asthma, etc. ) Changes in the environment are related to developmental changes that persist over a lifetime. For example, there is a fly called the dung fly because the female lays her eggs on cattle dung. The dung provides food for the hatched larvae. When there is ample dung, the flies take longer to mature and grow larger than when dung is less available. With less available dung, the flies accelerate development and grow to a smaller body size.
