To test a hypothesis, the may do research that predicts behaviour using correlational studies, often conducted in natural settings, may seek to explain behaviour by conducting experiments that manipulate factors under controlled conditions. Once they have conducted a study, they explore ways to apply their ndings to improve peoples lives. Theory is an integrated set of principles that explain and predict observed events, summarize and imply testable predictions called hypotheses. Hypotheses allow us to test the theory on which they are based, predictions give us direction to research, predictive feature of good theories can also make them practical.
