Coping: the process used to manage demands, stress, and conflict. Some people cope by defining the problem and working toward a solution. However, there are sometimes that you cannot find identifiable solutions to your stress and problems (like when your loving pet has passed away, there is no solution how to deal with your grief). But, you can find ways to reduce the negative effects your emotions are having, both on yourself and on others. Both problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping are used to deal with a stressor. Positive psychology: uses scientific methods to study human strengths and potential. : suggests that one of the most powerful tools for coping is focusing on positive emotions. Ex) watching a funny movie can help you cope with stress and negative life experiences. Positive moods cause the focus of your attention to expand, whereas, negative moods narrow your focus of attention so that you attend to a small part of your environment.
