Hlth 352 ch 8: community and housing alternatives in later life. Our wellbeing and qol is influenced by: the community and neighbourhood in which we live, with whom we live, quality and type of housing, availability of transportation/community services. Environmental gerontology: the study of behavioural, social and psych implications of encounters btw older adults and their enviro. Older people must not only adapt to changing physical enviro, but also their social network. Older adults want to age in place. Age integrated people of varying ages live together. Age segregated people in a retirement home (majority of people are old) Aging in rural/remote communities: rural/small towns = outside of towns with pop of 10,000 or more. 3,000 in ca (52% have fewer than 1000) More than 350 km away = remote. One rural policy will not meet the needs of all of the people.
