It is important for court support staff to be representative of canadian society for two reasons. First court staff represent the public face of the court, the first contact point for litigations and witnesses. Second all canadians should feel that they have an equal chance to work in the courts should they desire and that they are not likely to encounter discrimination when applying for a court related job. 2/3 of the court support staff were woman and they tended to be a few years younger than there male counterparts. Women accounted for 61% of the administrative staff. However, nearly all sheriffs and bailiffs were men.
