Document Summary

The constructionist approach begins with the issue of how wrongdoing is constructed. They also address the matter of what consequences role making and role enforcement have. The constructionists also consider the issue of aetiology but it is less central to their concerns, and they are likely to select powerlessness and marginality as one of the major causes of engaging in deviance and crime. The laws tend to be enacted by the powerful against the powerless, and the behaviour that is showed as wrong is generally enacted by the powerless as well. Constructionism focuses on the creation of social categories , the deviance among those categories, why certain rules exist, how they work, the consequences, and why certain behaviours are more enacted by the powerless. In short, they look at how deviance is de ned, conceptualized and represented and how those are enacted and with what consequences.
