Religious and dogma and superstitious beliefs were replaced with a belief in the scientific method and rational thought (human activity determined by free will and rational thought, no spirits. Scientific method could tell us about social life. No belief in spirits or forces but by free will and peoples choices. Magna carta: established basic civil liberties, foundation of modern english law, 1215, judicial rights, protection from illegitimate jailing, prevented king from doing whatever he wanted, foundation of our legal system. In a hurry to get somewhere you drive faster, but driving closer to limits keeps everyone safe (giving up freedom of driving fast for protection)
