Freud-believed that the unconscious mind operated under its own power, subject to its own motivations according to its own logic. Psychic energy- refers to this wellspring of motivation. Freud believe that everyone possessed a constant amount of energy throughout the life and that personality change is due to a reduction of energy. Instincts-the forces that freud believed provide all of our psychic energy. There are two self preservation and sexual instincts which barrow from darwin"s theory. Later freud combined the two theories which he called life instincts and then added a death. The conscious mind-the part that contains all the thoughts, feelings and perceptions that you are presently aware of. Preconscious mind- is any piece of information that you are not presently thinking about, but could easily be retrieved and made conscious is found here. The unconscious mind-here is where unacceptable information, hidden from the conscious view so well that it cannot be consider preconscious is.
