Childbirth classes ~ 3 strategies to counter pain. 1st stage of the childbirth process, in which the cervix dilates + the muscles of the uterus contract to push the fetus into the vagina toward the cervix. 2nd stage of the birth process, during which the fetus is pushed out of the cervix + through the birth canal. Longest part irst child ~ 12 hours, 6 hours for next births. Contracions leads to dilaion to open the cervix. Cervix has opened about 10 cenimeters (4. 5 inches) by the end of labor. Easing discomfort: rock in chair, roll on birthing ball, breathe in steady rhythm, warm shower/bath, cool damp cloth on forehead, walk, massage between contracions. Second: delivery: 30 to 60 minutes, crowning: i see the head! The baby"s head appears @ the outer opening of the vagina. All placenta must be expelled or mother will coninue to bleed, could be life threatening.
