Two ways of approaching the where" - or location: 1. Absolute location -- of the thing you are interested in by identifying its outermost points and specifying their latitude and longitude: 2. Relative location -- is identified in terms of the location of other things. Location: the specific part of the earth"s surface where a particular thing is situated. Since latitude has an obvious effect on climate (north to south distance), simply identifying the absolute location of a place can tell us a lot about the conditions of life there. The various provinces and territories differ greatly not only in area but in number of residents and population density. Population density: the size of a population in relation to the space it occupies. It is calculated by dividing the number of people in a defined region by the area of the region. Ecumene: inhabited land; by far the largest portion of canada.
