Image, their leader, and discrediting their opponents is often the main concern of political parties. The governing party determines the agenda, oversees the development of public policies, and usually obtains the support of parliament. The opposition parties try to hold the government accountable for its actions and raises issues that have not been dealt with adequately by government. Political party: an organization with a central role in the competition for political power in legislative bodies and in governing. Cadre party: loosely organized party established by members of a legislative body with the support of local notables.
