Healthy lifestyle is important: what a mother does a year because concepion has an efect on the fetus. Tradiional pathway= school compleion, self-supporing work, marriage in early 20s, children 1-2 years later: people stay in school longer, cohabit more, marrying later in life, children outside of marriage. Study conducted that looked at young women at 18 and at 23 to see what pathways they took- found 7 pathways (see chart) Women with personal and social resources postpone families- posiive relaionship with parents, high self-esteem, friends, school success. Women who had children alone, or in married or cohabiing relaionships were likely to have fewer resources: child is a social resource- someone to love and care for.
