Conflict = one party perceives that another party has negatively affected or is about to negatively affect something that the first party cares about: describes point when interaction becomes disagreement, has both positive and negative effects. Functional conflict = supports goals of the group, improve performance, constructive form of conflict: e. g. debate among members on how to work efficiently. Dysfunctional conflict = conflict that hinders group performance. 3 categories : task, contents and goals of the work, positively associated with their performance, relationship, focus on interpersonal relationships, process, how work gets done, e. g. delegation, roles. 3 types : dyadic conflict = between 2 people, intragroup conflict = within a team/group, intergroup conflict = between groups or teams, can be stressful and affect ways they interact. Conflict is constructive when it improves the quality of decisions, stimulates creativity and innovation, encourages interest, etc.
