Inside sun"s core, energy is produced by nuclear fusion, released in form of radiation & heat. Distance from earth to sun - astronomical unit. Transits of venus - rare occasions when venus can be seen as tiny dot directly b/w. Sun"s mass - 333 000 times mass of earth. Average density - only a bit more dense than water. Atom - smallest unit of chemical element, consisting of nucleus containing protons & neutrons plus surrounding cloud of electrons. Nucleus - central core of atom containing protons & neutrons carrying a net positive charge. Proton - positively charged atomic particle contained in nucleus of an atom. Nucleus of hydrogen atom consists of a single proton. Neutron - atomic particle contained in nucleus, w/ no charge & about same mass as proton.
