Introduction: what is normal sexual behaviour? (pg 367) All societies throughout history and around the world have established sexual norms in an attempt to control the sexuality of their members. Incest=sexual activity between persons of a close enough genetic relationship that they are not legally permitted to marry. How are atypical sexual behaviours defined? (pg 368) Atypical sexual behaviours are referred to as paraphilias. Paraphilia=any intense and persistent sexual interest other than sexual interest in genital stimulation or preparatory fondling with phenotypically normal, physically mature, consenting human partners. Paraphilic disorder=a paraphilia that causes distress or impairment to the individual, or that may harm others when acted upon. What are the commonly identified atypical sexual behaviours? (pg 369) Paraphilias have been categorized into 2 major sections: paraphilias/paraphilic disorders that involve consenting partners, and paraphilic disorders that involve non-consenting people.
