Pattern of behaviour/course of conduct pursued by indiv designed to intimidate & distress another indiv. Modern communications provide both immediacy & distance, which can be potent combination in facilitating offensive & harassing behaviour. Social networking sites provide ready access not only to victim, but to friends, family & other associates. Relative anonymity of internet can cause a loss of social inhibitions & constraints, thereby emboldening offenders to act. Lack of personal contact may encourage projection of fantasy. Ready availability of personal info on internet may facilitate harassment. Loose nature of social networks & varying levels of privacy protection make sites a veritable treasure trove of personal info. Arguably most serious form of online harassment - cyberstalking - use of internet, e-mail. & other electronic communication devices to stalk another person.
