Internal intercostal muscles: depress ribs and pull it inferiorly during forced expiration. Bony thorax: cone-shaped with a narrow inlet for passage of blood vessels, nerves, esophagus and trachea. Nasal breathing: respiration that occurs at rest where air enters/leaves rs through nose and nasal cavity. Paranasal sinuses: airspaces w/in bones and open into nasal cavity. Pharynx: area that extends from internal nares/posterior nasal apentures to the level of c6. Passage way for air and food (that"s why u can breathe through mouth when nose is blocked: nasopharynx: respiratory passageway that extends from internal nares to level of uvula.
