There is more genetic variation within races than among races. People believe that race is biologically meaningful and reject that they are racist. Race is a mere social construction, but as long as it continues to influence social behavior, it is a significant issue. Physical features shared by members of the same race are often a result of evolutionary adaptation to specific environmental conditions (skin color darkens because they live where there is great sunlight) People who differ in appearance may share the same cultural values and people who look the same may not. Culture the way of life of a society that includes dress, language, norms of behavior, foods, tools, beliefs, and folklore. Ethnic groups are created through social interaction.
