SSH 301 Chapter Notes - Chapter 14: Structural Analysis, Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software, Qualitative Research
Document Summary
Qualitative analysis is often iterative-> analysis takes place after some of the data have been collected and then the implication of that analysis shape further data collection. Example of a type of qualitative research that uses an iterative process. Seeks universal explanations of phenomena that permit no exception. Data collection continues until no new inconsistent piece of evidence is found. Extremely rigorous method of analysis, not favoured by current qualitative researchers. Doesn"t provide useful guidelines on the number of cases required before the absence of negative cases can be assumed and the validity of the hypothetical explanation can be confirmed. Definition: theory derived from data systematically gathered and analyzed through the research process. Two central features: its development of theory out of data and an iterative or recursive approach in which data collection and analysis proceed in tandem, repeatedly referring back to each other. Data are broken down into component parts and given names.
