Nurses have potential to make critical differences in lives of clients and their families but many believe that those critical differences are part of their ordinary work. Leadership process that involves influencing the thinking and actions of others with respect to achieving a goal and a person can be a leader without having formal authority of management position. Influence is instrumental part of leadership: process of leadership involves leader and follower in interaction, which implies that leadership is reciprocal relationship. Defining leadership as a process helps to understand leadership differently than traditional view of person in position of authority who exerts command, control, and power over subordinates.
