Father: a weak wood-cutter who is controlled by his wife but loves his children. Stepmother: a wicked woman who cares only about herself. Hansel: an intelligent and brave boy who protects his sister. Gretel: a brave and intelligent girl who trusts her brother and saves him. The witch: a blind witch who likes to eat children and lures them with a candy house. A poor wood-cutter with a wife and two children, named hansel and gretel, is left without food when a dearth falls on the land. His wife designs a way to get rid of her step-children, so that she and the father can survive. They plan to leave the children in the forest with a piece of bread each and a fire and to never return, so that they cannot find their way back home. The children heard this and so hansel comes up with a plan.
