Introduced where child and youth care practice emerged. A human services profession that started around the end of wwii - the profession originally focused on residential settings - now found in multiple settings/roles. Not always a direct work with children. Caring for young people is usually done by women. Being payed to care for young people is a newer idea. Cycs are passionate and devoted to improving lives. A calling to help youth and their families and help them find the right path without imposing our own beliefs. Caring is a calling and valued by a community/society. Caring for children is no longer just a family activity. Youth and the practitioner carry a history that influences a relationship between them. Youth come with a history and need someone who cares.
