Females engagement with crime took 2 paths: focused attention on sexism of the small body of theories that had been developed to explain women"s crime. Attributing to women socially undesirable characteristics that are assumed to be intrinsic characteristics of that sex: focus to include the invisibility of women in the mainstream theories within the discipline. Conservative approach: understanding differences in criminality between men and women: differences rooted in biology, women viewed as inferior to men. Lombroso and ferrero: say that women possess little intelligence, less sensitive to pain, full of revenge and jealousy, and passive. Women were seen to be degenerated than men: women and others of color are not as biologically evolved as white men. Criminal women were seen a more genetically male than female. Thomas: said that men"s and women"s instincts differed both quality and quantity, the need to feel loved was the reason women committed crimes.
