Aggression: physical or verbal behaviour intended to hurt someone. What is aggression: different then assertiveness, 2 types. Aggression driven by anger and performed as an end in itself. What are some theories of aggression: aggression as a biological phenomenon. Instinctive behaviour: an innate, unlearned behaviour pattern exhibited by all members of a species. Aggression is complex therefore not one spot of the brain controls it. When areas of the brain are activated it person shows hostility. Abnormal brains can contribute to abnormally aggressive behaviour. Hereditary influence the neural systems sensitivity to aggressive cues. Animal species can be bred to be aggressive. Genes predispose children to be more sensitive and responsive to mal treatment (environment) Alcohol has more effect on large people then small people (and women) Enhances aggressiveness by reducing peoples self awareness by focusing their attention on a provocation. Testosterone levels decrease with age (after 25) and so does crime.
