Document Summary

Behavioural genetics = study of genetic and environmental contributions to individual differences in personality and behaviour. Nature and nurture transact work together, separately, or influence one another. Genotype-environment interaction environments have different effects depending on people"s genes. Genotype-environment correlation people change environments and vice versa, so can"t separate effect of genes from effect of environment. Phenotype = genotype + environment + g-e correlation + g-e interaction. Amount of observed individual differences in some characteristic that can be accounted for by genetic differences. Refers to differences across population not specific person. Estimates extent to which observed individual differences can be traced to individual differences in environment. Higher heritability estimates in equalizing environments (e. g. developed countries); lower in more variable environments (e. g. less developed countries) Go from child to adult + favourable environmental circumstances = increased genetic influences. Shared = aspects of family environment that are same for all children in households.
