Division refers to distinguishing between different types of memory. Long-term memory: episodic memory - memory for specific experiences from the past, semantic memory - memory for facts, procedural memory - memory for how to carry out physical actions. Interaction refers to the fact that the different types of memory can interact & share mechanisms. The system that is responsible for storing info for long periods of time. Recent memories tend to be more detailed, & they will fade with time as other experiences accumulate. Indicates that memory is better for words at the beginning of the list & at the end of the list than for words in the middle. Also presented a second list asking subjects to repeat words out loud during 5-second intervals. Supported the primacy effect because words presented early in list were rehearsed more & were likely to be remembered. Delay caused by counting eliminated recency effect. Coding: the form in which stimuli are represented.
