Substance-related & addictive disorders: associated w the abuse of drugs & other substances that ppl take to alter the way they think, feel, & behave. Impulse-control disorders: represent a # of the related probs that involve an inability to resist acting on a drive or temptation (impulse to steal, be aggressive, set fires, etc. ) Substance: chemical compounds that are ingested in order to alter mood or behaviour. Substance use: the ingestion of psychoactive substances in moderate amounts that dont significantly interfere w social, educational, or occupational functioning. Substance intoxication: our physiological reaction to ingested substances -being drunk or high. Substance abuse: defined by how significantly it interferes w person"s life. If it disrupts relationships, school, or occupation, or causes probs or dangerous situations, one is identified as a substance abuser. Hard drug use: using one or more of amphetamines, barbiturates, crack, cocaine pcp, Lsd, other psychedelics, crystal meth, inhalants, heroin, or other narcotics.
