Relexes-newborn baby comes with behaviours already in place. Relexes speciic complex acions that occur automaically in response to certain simuli. When an infant feels something on one side of cheek, they will turn their head toward touch and open their mouth (rooing relex), which is crucial to feeding but soon replaced by voluntary behaviours. Strong relexes at birth indicate survival and typical neural development. Some are useful, and last whole life (eye blink relex) Some useful at birth but replaced later by voluntary behaviours (rooing (above) and sucking-if something enters infants mouth they begin to suck feeding) Some relexes have purposes that are not straighforward . Babinski relex = automaic response to infant having foot stroke in where they fan and then curl toes. Tonic neck relex-infant turn head to one side, extend arm on same side and lex arm and knee in opposite side of body. Stepping relex- held upright over lat surface, move feet in a walk-like fashion.
