Chapter two: women struggle for the vote: the history of women"s suffrage. Women have come farther then eve having 9. 7 million more women then men voting in the 2008 election. Women being able to vote across the board was not a luxury women had just a century ago. When a movement occurs in different places they must take into consideration where they are occurring. A social movement in an authoritarian government will have a significantly different outcome then one taking place in a democratic government. ** politicians who are elected by the people are more likely to respond to social movements compared to those elected by force** The declaration of independence enshrined the belief that governing was mostly a male profession. Despite women being basically absent during this time from the public eye there were a few strong female voices who were trying to stand up for the rights of all women.
