COMM 103 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Corporate Social Responsibility, Whistleblower, Brand Equity
Document Summary
Reflects the moral principle beliefs about what an individual views as being right or wrong. Built around the norms or standards of conduct which society views as being acceptable behavioural practices decisions. Can be thought of as an invisible hand which is inside each of us and guides us as we make. Ethical behaviour of an individual can be influenced positively or negatively by: individual motivations, cultural and environmental upbringing, personal pressures, lack of information and/or ignorance. Some believe that if it is legal, it is ethical. If society has demonstrated both reward and a blind eye to particular actions, then such actions will become, in the minds of some individuals as acceptable practises. Dilemma in ethics: we all have a different interpretation of what is acceptable and/or non- acceptable behaviours. In decision-making, the formation of our ethical interpretation is from 4 sources: individual values and influences, societal influences, professional designation and association influences, business culture of the organization.
