Document Summary

Viruses are simple submicroscopic parasites of plants, animals, archaea and bacteria. Simples virus consist of a nucleic acid core, the viral genome, surrounded by a protein coat. A genome with the coat is called a virion o. Usually associated with a specific type of host. A virus affects photosynthesis in plants by interfering with chlorophyll production. In viruses, the genome can be either composed of rna or dna *** o. However most plant viruses are single-stranded rna, who"s rna can act as a messenger rna in infected host cells. Most viruses have either rna or dna as their genetic material. The nucleic acid may be single- or double-stranded. Animal viruses are able to enter cells via receptor mediated endocytosis(virus binds to receptor protein) whereas plant viruses cannot cross the cell wall. Plan viruses require insect vectors + enter via wounds made mechanically by nematodes. A virion sheds its coat allowing its nucleic acid to enter the host cell.
