A combination of four factors can predict the degree of attraction between two individuals. Attractiveness is governed by several key factors. We are more attracted to people who are closer in proximity to us. Functional distance: is also important, how we then interact with the people in our proximity. How does anticipating an interaction with someone influence their attraction ratings: we tend to like the people we anticipate interacting with, familiarity. We are more positive toward familiar than unfamiliar stimuli. We use physical attractiveness as an indicator of personal characteristics.
