Max steiner: father of american film music. Arts can be divided into two basic types: Visual: aka spatial arts, occupy space and can theoretically be seen in their entirety in a given moment. Widened the distance between the audience and the performance. Created an orchestra pit so audience wouldn"t see orchestra. Members of orchestra weren"t allowed to tune their instruments. Insisted in acting rehearsals before singing rehearsals began. Unique/ detailed scenery were created for each scene. Eliminated box seats, every seat had equal good sight and sound = continental seating. These were aimed at creating the illusion that the audience was not sitting in a theatre.
