KINESIOL 4SS3 Chapter Notes - Chapter article summary: Bmd Group, Femur Neck, Skipping Rope
Document Summary
Long term exercise and bmd changes in post menopausal women. Exercise can affect all fracture parameters: fall risk, fall impact, and bone strength. Erlangen fitness and osteoporosis prevention study (efops): to evaluate clinical fracture incidence in postmenopausal women. Primary aim: evaluate how bmd changed over 16 years of consistently supervised exercise in order to ascertain whether there was a temporary loss of affectivity of exercise on bone. Main hypothesis: bmd differences at 1) lumbar spine and 2) femoral neck between exercisers and non-training controls increase throughout 16 years. Non randomized, semi-blind, parallel group exercise trial. Determine long-term effect of exercise on fractures and bone strength in postmenopausal osteopenia women. 137 females: 1-8 years after menopause, osteopenia (through dexa) at ls or total hip. Exclusion criteria: known osteoporotic fractures, secondary osteoporosis, pharmacologic therapy (hrt + bisphosphates +gluccocorticoids, diseases affecting bone metabolism (cushing disease, morbus crohn, acute inflammable diseases, previous hard cardiovascular diseases/events.
