Health by statistical normality: but can fall out of range & still be healthy (ex. Individual"s evaluation of symptoms their norms (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Health evaluative notions, based on adherence to physical, social: normality depends on factors like: age, gender, culture, & Illness deviation from normality perceived by patient as distressing & entitling them to special treatment. Disease organizing construct for explaining & responding to constellations of symptoms. Psychological processes (thoughts, feelings, & behaviours) play an important role in health. Health = evaluative notion: symptoms interpreted differently by different people. Illnesses = psychological in nature diff. from other animals: humans knowingly ingest toxic substances, overeat, under sleep ect, way we respond to stress.
