HTHSCI 1H06 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Choline, Periosteum, Active Transport
Document Summary
Penetrates the interior of each fascicle and separates individual muscle fibers. Endomysium: from one another (surrounds each individual muscle fibre) Perimysium : surrounds a bundle of muscle fibres, separating them into fascicles. Fascicle : a bundle of fibres wrapped in perimysium. All of these three layers contribute to the muscle sheath and become a tendon. the tendon is continuous with periosteum of bone. Muscle: composed of muscle fibres (cells) called myocytes. these muscle cells are filled with myofibrils. Within myofibrils, there are protein structures called filaments. there are thin filaments, composed mostly of actin, and thick filaments composed mostly of myosin. Z-disc: thousands of proteins put together to glue filaments in place so that when pulled over myosin, everything moves together. M-line: special protein that keeps myosin fibers stuck together. I band: less dense area that contains remainder of thin filaments. a z disc passes through center of each band. H zone: narrow region that contains thick filaments.
