Interrelation between individual"s capability and demands of the environment. Environmental press: the demands of the environment on a person. People feel the most comfort when their capability matches the demands of the environment and they can fulfill their needs. Too great or too little environmental demand leads to a decreased feeling of well-being. People try to find a comfortable fit between what they can do and what they need to do to meet their needs. An autonomous person can pursue their goals with their own resources. If a person has some disability, a secure environment can help that person achieve their goals.
