Document Summary
Gender equality: refers to a constellation of behaviours, attitudes, and rights that support the autonomy of both men and women. In a gender-equal society, men and may have different economic, social, and political roles but the rewards given to them are roughly similar. Gender inequality: refers to denial of autonomy (right/condition) and equal rights to one group of people based on their gender. Most marked in societies with strong economic specialization, where social and political stratification affects the allocation of rights and privileges among social categories, including class and gender. In patriarchal societies, in india, pakistan, and many middle eastern countries women do not occupy positions of authority and are usually restricted in their daily activities. Male dominance: pervasive, men learn to disvalue women and to assume rights to control women s activity. Women learn to disvalue themselves in these cultures and accept male dominance. In some societies, gender roles are more segregates than in others.
