Document Summary

The case of filipina sex workers in asia. Since 2004, elaine, a single parent from the philippines has been a temporary migrant worker, circulating and engaging in sex work in. Because most countries do not recognize sex work as legitimate work, there is no legal labour migration channels for migrant sex workers like elaine forcing her into illegal avenues. To pursue sex work in other countries, elaine must rely on tourists visas which limits her to destinations in asia where filipino citizens have fee visa visits. The philippine government has barred elaine from leaving the country on several occasions on the suspicion she is not a real tourist. Elaine represents an increasing number of women who leave their homes to seek employment in other countries. Migrant women are also demonized in public debates as mothers of anchor babies, as migrant mothers who abandon their children while they work in other countries.
