Increase in the aging population in developed countries. Rapid population growth is occurring in developing countries. Baby boomers: the generation of those born between 1946 and 1964: accounts for the majority of the purchase, receptive to anything that makes them feel or look younger, starting to experience health related problems. Generation x: the population of those born between 1965 and 1976: the amount of children born decline, self-reliant, entrepreneurial, supportive of ethnic diversity, better educated, cautious, pragmatic, and traditional. Generation y: those born between 1977 and 1994: period of increasing birth, influence on entertainment and wireless phones, beginning adulthood. Environmental scanning: the process of continually acquiring information on events occurring outside the organization to identify and interpret potential trends. Environmental trends arise from 5 sources: social, economic, technological, competitive, and regulatory forces. The key to environmental scanning is not only identifying this trends but also determining why it is occurring.
