Lbj became the 36th president in april 1964. They needed to use the kennedy program to bring the country to new heights and create the johnson program. His vision was to become the great society which showed off what the american government is capable of. The laws that were enacted between 1964 and 1968 are engrained in american life and they have knocked down racial barriers, provided health care for the elderly and food for the poor. Lbj"s activism was inspired by fdr and the new deal. Lbj made congress make 200 major bills and it was seen as the most productive legislative body in american history. Voting rights act sought to bring blacks to the polls. Some of the programs that aimed to solve perpetuated the problems.
