Document Summary

Half way between the baghdad and the persian gulf is the ancient city of ur. This city went down, like many others in the region, in disaster. One nomadic family that escaped the cataclysm was a nomadic family originally from. Attracted by the prosperity of the capital city of ur, they had taken up residence like many others. At the head of this family was a man named terah. He and his family headed back towards haran, seen as a temporary halting place. There being a lot of unsettlement in the region, terah ending up dying in haran and the succession as head of the family fell to his eldest son, abram. Terah and his son, abram, had different ideas. They also had different religions; terah shared the normal religion of the time, he was a polytheist. Terah (polytheist) worshipped different idols, which probably included the moon-god, Sin, the chief deity at both haran & ur.
