He noticed that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since their invention. Notebooks are portable, but more expensive, easily stolen, difficult to upgrade & prone to breaking. Desktops are more powerful, cheaper, more difficult to transport. Composed of control unit (coordinates activity) & arithmetic logic unit (alu) (performs arithmetic calculations and makes logic and comparison decisions. Goes thru machine cycle every time steps are performed (fetches data, decodes instructions, executes instruction, stores data to ram) Core: a complete processing section from a cpu embedded into the same physical chip. Clock speed: how quickly the processor works. Cache: the amount of immediate access memory the cpu has. Front side bus: connects the processor to system memory. To see your cpu"s performance, check the task manager to see how quickly the data moves. Random access memory (ram) is your computer"s temporary storage space.
