PSYC 2307 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Availability Heuristic, Homeostasis, Transcranial Direct-Current Stimulation
Document Summary
Cognitive neuroscience: seeks how the brain processes information, builds memories, navigates decisions, and ultimately produces a human being from trillions of smaller parts. Emergent properties: characteristics of a system that do not belong to any individual component; not a property of any given piece but of the system as a whole. To understand connections between mind and brain we must understand 2 things: the way humans behave, perceive and decide, the biological mechanisms that underlie these behaviours. Cognitive neuroscience seeks to determine how the organization and function of the brain"s parts produce everyday behaviours. Behaviours are underpinned by physical things b/c if we change our brains we change our behaviour. When the brain changes so do we. Adaptations: changes in biology or behaviour that increase the probability of survival and that the survival of an organism will lead to its reproduction. We recognize that our body and brain are required to sustain thoughts however, this does not explain them.
