Development: the sequence of age-related changes that occur as a person progresses from conception to death. Life span can be divided into 4 periods: prenatal period, childhood, adolescence, adulthood. Zygote: a one celled organism formed by the union of a sperm and an egg. Prenatal period: extends from conception to birth, usually encompassing nine months of pregnancy. Development during the prenatal period is very rapid. Prenatal development is divided into three phases: germinal stage (the first two weeks, embryonic stage (two weeks to two months, fetal stage (two months to birth) Germinal stage: the first phase of prenatal development, encompassing the first two weeks after conception. 36 hours, rapid cell division and zygote becomes a mass of cells that migrate along the fallopian tube to the uterine cavity.
