If someone is removed from society that person will no longer be a threat crime. Favours much longer sentences (speci cally offenders with lengthy criminal histories) 90% of offenders will eventually be released from prison. Every 1$ spent on incarcerating an offender there is a 17$ saving to society. Only protects society while offender is incarcerated. Approach that many offenders can be treated in humane ways and once released will lead crime-free lives. Programs and care management designed to correct behaviour and personality of oddness. Rooted in belief that offenders have many layers (not just criminals) Treatment is necessary to prepare them to return to society as law-abiding citizens.
