Medicalization of society: medicalization: process by which non medical problems become de ned and treated as medical problems (usually referred to in terms of illnesses or disorders) Institutional > organizations approach a problem as medical. !2: gay gene was allegedly a predisposition for sexual orientation which could remedicalize and be seen as a treatable condition. Iatrogenesis: physician, health professional, health-system-induced illness, an illness that would not occur if it were not for contact with the care system in some capacity: illich described 3 types: Social iatrogenesis: social perception of health care system & the control over humans lives, medicalization is the process of bringing more everyday behaviour under the control of medicine. Dependance of society on care: more damage is caused to our health by our belief that we cannot cope without care of the health system.
